At the NBA accredited Dept of Civil Engineering, RIET aims at producing bright graduates in Civil Engineering to meet the rapid technological advances and industrial requirements. The department has highly qualified faculty members specialised in various disciplines of Civil Engineering. They add strength to the department with their competitive skills and vibrant dedication. The department is also equipped to cater to the external projects and consultancy work along with academics.
The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 2009 with an undergraduate programme affiliated to Kerala University. The programme (B Tech in Civil Engineering) has a sanctioned intake of 60 students. From 2015, it is offered as per curriculum of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). The department offers a Post-Graduate programme (M.Tech) in Geotechnical Engineering, with an annual intake of 18 students.

Dr. Nalanth N. – Professor & HOD

Dr. Nalath N. is an expert in the field of self-compacting concrete and Light Weight Concrete and has carried out extensive research in the area of relevance. He has worked in various levels as Principal, Vice Principal, Head of the Department having a teaching experience of 18 years. He has completed his Ph.D. degree from Anna University Chennai in 2015. His research areas are Self-compacting concrete, Light weight Concrete, Structural Health Monitoring, Structural Health Monitoring, Construction and Demolition Waste Management & Structural optimization. He is recognized Ph.D. guide of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE). He is currently guiding 10 research scholars. He has guided 52 students for M.E. Dissertations. The total number of journal publications to his credit is 21. He is Life member of ISTE and IAENG. He worked as Chairman board of studies in Civil Engineering, NICHE and member Board of Studies in PSN college of Engineering. He also served as Deputy Director Entrance Examination in NICHE. He is reviewer of 2 International Journals. He has organized 12 National Conferences/Workshop & 3 National Level -Short Term Training Programme. He has published one text book. He has delivered about 3 Keynote address, 11 Expert Lectures & Participated in 5 Short Term Training Programmes. He has worked as session chair in National/International Conferences.

International Women’s day was organised under the title DHEERA on 12th March 2019. It was inaugurated by Aswathy Jwala (Founder of Jwala Foundation) along with Robin Chaplin as the chief guest. Function was presided over by Principal, Dr. Raveendranathan.
ITIHA 2K18 a three day National Level Techno Cultural fest of RIET which commenced on March 8, 2018. It was the amalgamation of the talent and resources of the students of six specialised arms of RIET. ITIHA 2K18 was incorporated with the workshop on National Students Space Challenge, by IIT Kharagpur for all disciplines of engineering.
It was an attempt to challenge new possibilities, inspire innovations and a platform to showcase and hone our technical talents and skills.
Rejoicing the world of rhythm and music ITIHA 2K18 showcased pro shows for the first time in south Kerala with artists from Tomorrow land Fame Lost Stories and Teri Miko

A 2-day hands-on training workshop was conducted at RIET on 5-6 April 2019 by BUILD U which is an avenue for enriching students’ engineering caliber. As Civil Engineering impacts our lives in a big way, practical skills are very important to have for an aspiring Civil Engineer. This session made them aware of the complete planning procedure, Arch masonry, Reinforcement details of beams and columns along with the foundation. Students after training This workshop program was designed to acquaint students with the practical or hands-on knowledge, thereby giving the students an opportunity to witness practically what they have studied in class. This program was a successful one as around 60 students participated.

Civil Engineering Department of Rajadhani Institue of Engineering and Technology had organized a KTU sponsored FDP on “Geotechnics for Transportation Structures” from 17th-21stJune 2019. The FDP was formally inaugurated by Dr.Jayamohan J (Principal, LBSITW), Trivandrum, by lighting the lamp, in the presence of the Principal Prof.(Dr) K.C.Raveendranathan, Prof.(Dr) K. Balan Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Convenor of the FDP, Ms. Remya V R and Ms.Deepthi Sudhi, Coordinators of FDP and other heads of departments of RIET. Around 20 participants from other Engineering colleges, along with 10 inhouse participants had attended the sessions. Various eminent personalities from esteemed organizations like NIT, CET, PWD have handled the sessions by sharing experience pertaining to their field of expertise.

AICTE Sponsored 5-Days ATAL FDP on Value Engineering for Infrastructure Projects was conducted from 5th to 9th July 2021 in which around 90 participants from different parts of the country participated.

The inauguration was held on 5th July 2021 online at 9:30 am. Chief Guest of the program was Dr Samson (Director, NATPAC). Around 90 participants across the country participated in this 5 days FDP.
Poster Competition on World Environmental Day (5 June 2021)
To bring out the creative expression of the students of RIET and also to spread awareness about the importance of nature, an online Poster Competition was conducted by Department of Civil Engineering Association, Sparcz on 5th June, 2021 on the occasion of World Environmental Day. The theme of the competition was ‘Reimagine. Recreate. Restore our Ecosystem’. Ecosystem restoration can take many forms: Growing trees, greening cities, rewilding gardens, changing diets or cleaning up rivers and coasts. A very good response was received. 81 enthusiastic students of various departments have send their posters online.
Mr. Rahib Shajahan and Mr. Harikrishnan T S were the student coordinators and Ms. Anjana V G was the faculty coordinator of the competition.The winners of the competition are: First Prize: Irfan S, S4, CSE Second Prize: Muhsina F, S2, CE Third Prize: Vivek R B, S4, AE.
